Practicing PBL: bring Project Based Learning alive every day!

a live, coached course with everything you need to know about building a rock-star PBL learning environment for special projects or everyday engagement

By the end of this in-depth Practicing PBL course, you will not only have created a phenomenal PBL unit that will make your students beg for more, but you'll also be able to do this for any unit and topic you choose from now on, following our LifePractice PBL framework.

Learner engagement, content relevancy, and deep learning will never be an issue again!

We have designed this course specifically for teachers who are ready to dive deep into a community to learn more about Project/Problem/Passion Based Learning (PBL). Those teachers want time to process and practice their learning and appreciate the support and accountability that a community provides.

You will learn the framework it takes to shift yourself and your students to PBL. You will understand daily realities and be able to move to the topics and questions you want more help in. In this course, you'll build units, practice strategies and approaches, and reflect with a cohort community for sharpening your PBL skills and comfort.

Why choose this course? Some teachers want and need flexibility in their learning, but also like to have expert and consistent support as they build their own paths. Working in a community allows for processing of ideas and having time allows us to share our growth and progress over time.

Our challenge for you across this Practicing PBL course is to create and run a phenomenal PBL unit that challenges your students to want to know more so they'll be excited to do the hard learning work, too! They will be assessed in their answer/solution by an authentic audience, and you'll see your students come alive like never before!

Our course starts the week of October 7 and ends the week of December 9.
Each week, the Live Webinars will be archived, in case you are unable to attend live.

How this course works:

When you register, you'll have access to the first Introductory chapter. Log in and complete your first deliverable at any time before the course officially opens on ____________.

Once the course officially opens on May 6, 2018 you can log in to Chapter 1 and watch the video(s) and read the resources shared. We will go live at least once each week (dates TBD) to talk about what we're learning in that chapter and any other questions you may have related to that chapter or the ones previous. These live sessions will be a lot of Q&A, self-reflection, and challenges for taking it to the next level as we continue to grow your classroom into a full PBL environment. Each live session will be archived and available to view at any time afterward.

Each Sunday morning through July 1, a new chapter will drop and you will have instant access to start that chapter. We'll continue in that fashion until the course is over.

Of course you'll have access to this course always, even after you're finished. So if life happens in the middle of the course, or if you have to pause at one section, that's ok. Try to keep up because the live sessions are so valuable, but we understand life happens!

Keynote speaker, Trauma Responsive Education, Education Redesign, Project/Problem/Passion-based Learning, Gifted & High Ability Learners, Instructional Technology & Integration

“There is nothing better than watching the face of a teacher, or a group of educators, or an entire school, as they watch their kids get excited about learning and doing things they never thought was possible. I know exactly what that feels like from the perspective of the learner, the teacher, and the school leader. It’s the most awesome thing in the world. Because in that moment, everything is possible. It’s the best feeling of possibilities for all involved and they will want to do it again.”

Ginger is a national consultant & keynote speaker with ESSDACK, a non-profit education service center based in Hutchinson Kansas. She inspires and helps all levels of educators figure out the in’s and out’s of teaching and learning. Some of her specialty topics:

  • Redesigning schools & learning environments
  • Building Resilience in staff & students (self-care and
    co-care)
  • Project/Problem/Passion Based Learning
  • technology integration
  • working with gifted and high-ability learners

Ginger is deeply passionate about helping educators rethink and revision what teaching and learning can be in today’s world.

Originally a social science teacher, then shifting to Special Education/Gifted, Ginger eventually was tapped to start a school from the ground up with the only directive being that it was to be 1:1 laptops and 100% Project-Based Learning. She describes the adventure of building the school with her students, their parents, and the staff she hired as a “baptism by lava,” learning so much about truly student-driven learning and how to rethink how to serve a variety of students and families. When she stepped away from that beautiful school to join ESSDACK full time as a consultant, it was K-8, both virtual and F2F, and they were in the process of building the high school.

Combining nearly 30 years’ teaching & leading experience with her childhood background, rooted in incredible abuse and addiction which caused her to have 7 ACEs, Ginger is well-suited to helping school and communities rethink their school systems and what we might do differently to better serve students from all backgrounds.
