Mindfulness

People who have a lot going on in life would benefit from a regular mindfulness practice. The greatest benefit to practicing mindfulness is how you live your life moment to moment. Practicing mindfulness consistently will make you more aware, and awareness has the power to change your life. Just like a weight-lifting regiment builds stronger muscles, mindful-focused attention builds stronger mental system impacting your relationships–interpersonal connection–along the way.

Mindfulness means knowing what is happening here and now, and experiencing it without labeling or judging. When you're being mindful, you notice when flowers are blooming and the seasons are changing. You notice you have a visceral response in your body to something or someone in front of you. You're able to be fully present with others. When you're mindful, you're aware of what and how you speak to yourself.

Being mindful can help in decision-making, in reducing anxiety, and breaking the trance of being on autopilot.

Autopilot is the opposite of mindfulness:

  • It's when you reach for your phone first thing in the morning and scroll through social media and get a late start to your morning.
  • It's when you get into your car and end up at work on a Saturday when you meant to go to the grocery store.
  • It's when you sit down to watch TV and eat your whole meal without realizing how it really tasted.
  • It's walking out the door in the morning without your keys, wallet, phone, or other essential item for your day.

This module includes Mindful Minutes. Try each practice and determine which are easiest to implement and which create the greatest conscious pause for you. The goal is to experiment with one minute at a time and eventually extend the time you practice until it becomes a habit and a joy!

Focusing on the future or ruminating about the past keeps the mind somewhere other than the location of the body. When we miss the present moment, we miss life. By checking in fully to the here and now, the richness of life emerges.
